What insurance is included when I rent a motorcycle?
Motorcycle rental insurance usually protects against major financial risks such as third-party claims, damage to the rented motorcycle, theft, and certain insured incidents. At MotoGS Rental Croatia, standard motorcycle insurance is already included in the rental price for every BMW GS rental motorcycle.
At MotoGS Rental Croatia, the included insurance currently covers third-party liability, comprehensive insurance for damage to the rented motorcycle, partial comprehensive insurance for theft, environmental damage cover, and defense benefits. The current insurance information states liability cover of up to EUR 100 million as a flat amount and up to EUR 15 million per injured person.
Third-party liability insurance covers damage caused to other people, vehicles, or property, within the limits of the insurance policy. Comprehensive insurance covers insured damage to the rented motorcycle itself, while partial comprehensive insurance covers insured theft-related incidents.
Important: the rider is not personally insured for injuries through the motorcycle rental insurance. If you rent a motorcycle for a tour, you should arrange your own private accident insurance, travel insurance, or riding-specific personal protection. A passenger is insured up to EUR 15 million under the current insurance information.
The maximum excess for covered damage is EUR 2,000 per claim. This amount is reserved on your credit card as the security deposit at pickup and released after return according to the inspection result, the motorcycle rental agreement, and the applicable insurance handling.
MotoGS Rental Croatia also offers the option to arrange separate deposit insurance through HanseMerkur Insurance. This special insurance product can protect the EUR 2,000 deposit or excess amount in the event of insured damage, depending on the selected policy and its terms. It is not automatically included in the rental price and must be arranged separately before the rental starts.
Insurance cover always depends on proper use of the motorcycle and compliance with the rental and insurance conditions. Off-road riding, racetrack use, riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs, unauthorized border crossings, gross negligence, or other serious breaches of the rental terms may affect insurance cover and increase the renter’s liability.
Before your motorcycle tour starts, check what is included, what is not included, and whether you want to arrange optional deposit insurance. For related information, please also see our FAQs about:
