Is my motorcycle licence valid for renting a motorcycle in Europe?
Your motorcycle licence may be valid for renting a motorcycle in Europe, but it depends on where the licence was issued, whether it clearly shows the correct motorcycle category, and which countries you plan to ride through.
For motorcycle rental, the most important point is that your licence must clearly authorize you to ride the motorcycle category you want to rent. For MotoGS Rental Croatia, you need a valid Category A motorcycle licence or an equivalent full motorcycle licence recognized for your planned route.
If your motorcycle licence was issued in the EU or EEA, it is generally accepted for riding and renting motorcycles within the European Union, provided the correct motorcycle category is shown on the licence.
If your motorcycle licence was issued outside the EU or EEA, you should carry an International Driving Permit together with your original national motorcycle licence. The International Driving Permit is not a replacement for your licence; it is a translation document and must be presented together with the original licence.
This is especially important for riders from countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, South America, Asia, or other non-EU countries. Police checks, border crossings, insurance handling, and accident procedures can become difficult if your motorcycle entitlement is not clearly understood by local authorities.
At MotoGS Rental Croatia, the motorcycle is handed over in Croatia, but many customers ride through Croatia, the Adriatic region, the Balkans, Southern Europe, the Alps region, Italy, France, Switzerland, or other permitted countries. You must make sure your licence and travel documents are suitable for all countries on your planned route.
When you pick up the motorcycle, you must present your original motorcycle licence, your passport or national ID card, and—if applicable—your International Driving Permit. If your licence does not clearly show the required motorcycle category, the motorcycle may not be handed over.
Before travelling, check your licence category, issue country, expiry date, and whether you need an International Driving Permit for your route. For related information, please also see our FAQs about:
