Can I take a rental motorcycle on a ferry?
Can I take a rental motorcycle on a ferry?
Yes, you can usually take a rental motorcycle on a ferry, as long as the route is permitted under the rental agreement and any required border-crossing documents are carried with you. At MotoGS Rental Croatia, ferry travel is allowed, but international ferry routes should be discussed before your trip.
Ferries are part of many motorcycle routes in Croatia, the Adriatic region, and the Balkans. Domestic ferries can connect the Croatian mainland with islands, while international ferries may connect Croatia, Albania, Montenegro, Italy, or other countries depending on the route and season.
If your ferry route stays within Croatia, it is normally treated like any other approved road route. You should still follow the ferry company’s loading instructions, secure the motorcycle properly on board, and make sure your luggage and personal items are safely packed.
For ferry crossings, it is always useful to have at least two tie-down straps available to secure the motorcycle on board. In many cases, securing the vehicle is handled by the ferry company, but on busy crossings there may not always be enough straps available for every motorcycle. If you let us know before pickup that a ferry is part of your planned route, we can provide at least two tie-down straps for your trip.
If your ferry route crosses an international border, it is treated as international travel. In that case, you must carry the required documents, such as your passport or national ID card, valid motorcycle licence, border crossing permit, International Insurance Card / Green Card, rental agreement, and vehicle registration documents.
Please let us know before pickup if your route includes an international ferry connection. This allows us to check whether the destination country is permitted under the rental and insurance conditions and to prepare the required documents for your trip.
Ferry tickets are usually booked directly with the ferry company or through online ferry booking platforms. Availability, departure times, cabins, and vehicle rules depend on the route, season, and ferry operator, so it is worth checking the details before you travel.
Before booking a ferry, make sure the route is allowed for your rental motorcycle and that you have all required travel documents. For related information, please also see our FAQs:
