Do you have to pay tolls on motorways?

Yes, there are tolls on most Croatian highways, similar to most European countries. There are only a few exceptions.

How is the toll calculated?
The toll is based on the distance traveled. Motorcycles (including sidecars), trikes, and quads are classified as vehicle class 1A. In some cases, you will receive a ticket at the beginning of the toll road, which you pay upon leaving the section. Payment is possible in cash or by credit/debit card. A vignette is not required.

Are there toll-free bridges?
Yes, some bridges are toll-free:

  • Krk Bridge (Krčki most): Connects the island of Krk to the mainland
  • Mirna Bridge (between Nova Vas and Višnjan, A9 in Istria)
  • Pelješac Bridge: From the Pelješac peninsula to the mainland (still toll-free since its opening in 2022)

Are there toll tunnels?

  • Yes, for example, the approximately 5 km long Ucka Tunnel on the A8 motorway (Rovinj – Rijeka).
  • The Sveti Ilija Tunnel on the D532 is no longer subject to tolls.

Where can I find more information?
