What other highlights does the BMW motorcycle from MotoGS Rental Croatia offer me?
With a BMW motorcycle from MotoGS Rental, you experience freedom on wheels – and safety that comes along. Because we know: Adventures are best when you can enjoy them worry-free, no matter where the road takes you.
In short, safety is our top priority!
That's why each of our motorcycles is equipped with the BMW SOS emergency call system (Intelligent Emergency Call - ECALL) - your personal safety assistant on two wheels. It reacts automatically in the event of a fall, detects the severity of the accident, and activates immediate assistance in an emergency. Of course, you can also manually activate the system at any time on the handlebars.
How it protects you:
- Automatically or manually: Sensors detect falls, and you decide whether to call for help immediately.
- Real-time location transmission: Emergency services know exactly where you are – without any detours.
- Direct voice connection: You can speak immediately to helpers at the international BMW call center via microphone and loudspeaker.
Your benefits at a glance:
- Fast response: Help is already on the way before you even need to request it.
- No dependence on your smartphone: Everything works directly via your motorcycle.
- Internationally ready: Available in many European countries and Switzerland.
- Communication in your language: Understandable and direct, without misunderstandings.
With us, you'll ride with style, full of energy, and with the certainty that safety and adventure go hand in hand. This makes every ride an experience you can enjoy in complete relaxation - with the reassuring knowledge that in an emergency, help is just the push of a button away.
Can I cancel my motorcycle rental?
Yes, of course you can cancel your reservation. However, please note our cancellation policy:
- Up to 51 days before the start of the rental: 30% of the rental price will be charged.
- Up to 21 days before the start of the rental: 70% of the rental price will be charged.
- Less than 14 days before the start of the rental: 80% of the rental price will be charged.
- Less than 7 days before the start of the rental: 90% of the rental price will be charged.
- On the day of the rental start or in case of no-show: 100% of the rental price will be charged.
We therefore recommend canceling in good time or asking us about the possibility of rebooking. Perhaps not always, but in many cases, the booking can be postponed to another date. We will do our best to accommodate this.
How and where is the best place to store my luggage?
You can safely and dryly store any luggage you don't want to take with you on your motorcycle tour with us.
Arrival is usually via Split International Airport (Resnik, SPU), which has flights from numerous European and international destinations. Overseas guests often use Zagreb Airport (ZAG) as a stopover.
Upon request, we can pick you up directly from Split Airport for a small fee and return you after your tour. Alternatively, you can reach us conveniently by taxi or Uber in about 10 minutes.
You can repack your luggage at your leisure on site. Anything you don't need for your motorcycle tour simply stays with us. Our motorcycle panniers are also equipped with practical inner pockets that make loading and unloading particularly convenient.
Riding on-road or off-road - what is permitted and what is not?
No, our motorcycles may only be ridden on paved roads. Off-road riding is not permitted – even for BMW GS models, which are certainly designed for off-road adventures.
The reason:
We attach great importance to the quality, maintenance, and equipment of our motorcycles. To ensure you always have a technically flawless vehicle, off-road riding is prohibited.
Important note:
In the event of a violation, we reserve the right to increase the excess to EUR 3,000 in the event of damage.
We thank you for your understanding – this is how we ensure that every customer receives a motorcycle in perfect condition.
What kind of insurance coverage is included in the motorcycle rental?
At MotoGS Rental Croatia, every motorcycle, regardless of model, is fully insured. The insurance coverage is already included in the rental price and includes:
- Liability insurance: Damage to third parties (property damage or personal injury)
- up to EUR 100 million flat rate
- up to EUR 15 million per injured person
- Comprehensive insurance: Damage to the rented motorcycle (own damage)
- Partial comprehensive insurance: Theft insurance
- Environmental damage: up to EUR 5 million
- Defense benefits: Assistance in the event of a breakdown
Important information:
The rider is not insured. We therefore recommend taking out your own private accident insurance.
A passenger is insured up to EUR 15 million.
The maximum excess in the event of a claim is EUR 2,000. This will be reserved as a deposit on your credit card upon pick-up and released upon return in accordance with the contract.
Optional additional insurance:
As one of the few companies in Europe, we offer the option of fully covering the €2,000 excess with an additional insurance. In the event of damage, the renter will then bear no costs. Further information can be found from our insurance partner, Hanse Merkur Versicherung Germany.
What kind of documents do I need to rent a motorcycle in Croatia?
To rent a motorcycle from MotoGS Rental Croatia, you will need the following documents:
- Valid Category A motorcycle license
- EU citizens: a national license is sufficient
- Non-EU citizens: passport required + national license
- Driver's licenses outside the EU: We strongly recommend an International Driving Permit (IDP) as well, as Croatian police or border officials may not recognize national license categories.
- Valid identification document
- EU citizens: ID card
- Non-EU citizens: passport
- Credit card for the security deposit (the security deposit will be held on the credit card)
Important conditions:
Minimum age: 23 years
Driving experience: at least 3 years of motorcycle riding experience
The deposit will be released upon return of the motorcycle (including equipment) in accordance with the rental agreement.
What kind of payment methods with MotoGS Rental Croatia are available?
You have several options for paying for your motorcycle rental:
- Online payment in the booking system
- Credit and debit cards (all major providers)
- PayPal
- Amazon Pay
- Google Pay
- Apple Pay
All payments are processed securely via Stripe.
- Cash payment
- This is possible in exceptional cases if you rent the motorcycle directly from us on-site.
What do I need to pay before renting a motorcycle?
To confirm your booking, a deposit of 30% of the rental price is required.
The remaining 70% is due no later than the day you pick up the motorcycle.
Of course, you can also pay the entire rental amount (100%) directly upon booking.
Can the excess be waived?
No, a deposit (security deposit) is always required. This serves as our insurance, as our motorcycles - depending on the model - are valued between 18,000 EUR and 33,000 EUR. We trust that you will treat your rental motorcycle as if it were your own.
However:
We are one of the few rental companies in Europe, and probably the only one in Croatia, that offers you the option of protecting this deposit with optional additional insurance from Hanse Merkur Versicherung (Germany).
- This is known as deposit insurance for rental motorcycles and rental cars.
This means that in the event of damage, all costs incurred will be fully reimbursed through this additional insurance.
What kind of equipment is included in my rental price?
At MotoGS Rental Croatia, we only rent high-quality, fully equipped BMW motorcycles - with no extra charges for features or hidden costs.
The rental price includes:
- All BMW-available features for each motorcycle
- BMW Connected Ride Cradle
- Secures your smartphone in the cockpit
- Uses the BMW Motorrad Connected app for navigation, acceleration, lean angle, and much more

You can find further and detailed information, especially about the BMW Motorrad app, in our blog.
What is the minimum rental period?
Our motorcycles can generally be booked for a minimum rental period of 2 days. One-day rentals are only possible by prior arrangement.
Important for booking – 24-hour rule:
Our system always calculates rental periods in full 24-hour blocks, based on the selected pick-up time.
- Pick-up and return times: flexible between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
- Example 1:
- Pick-up: 10:00 a.m.
- Return after 2 days: 10:00 a.m. → exactly 48 hours → 2 days charged
- Example 2 (longer period):
- Pick-up: 2:00 p.m.
- Return after 5 days: 2:00 p.m. → exactly 120 hours → 5 days charged
Important: If you enter a return time when booking that is later than the original pick-up time, e.g., 3:00 p.m., the system will automatically calculate an additional rental day.
Practical tip:
Select the same return time as the pickup time to avoid additional charges.
Overstaying by up to one hour is free of charge.
Pickups and returns are possible at any time during our business hours (8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.).
How do I get from my hotel or Split Airport to the rental store and back?
Our rental location is located directly at Split Airport, making it quick and easy to reach us:
- By Uber (if the app is available) or
- by taxi.
- The journey from the airport to us takes a maximum of 10 minutes.
Pickup and drop-off by MotoGS Rental:
- We offer airport pickup and drop-off upon request, for example, if you want to start your motorcycle adventure directly from the airport.
- A personal pick-up and drop-off service to and from the airport is also available.
Why we recommend picking up from us:
- When picking up at our location, we can adjust the motorcycle to your needs, for example, by adjusting the seat height.
- You can try on and rent additional equipment, such as helmets or jackets, directly from us.
- We also offer free storage of your luggage during your tour.
This way, you can start your motorcycle adventure comfortably and safely.
Is my non-EU driver’s license valid for renting a motorcycle in Croatia?
- An EU Category A driving license (motorcycle license) is valid in all EU countries, including Croatia.
- Without a Category A driving license, you are not permitted to rent or ride motorcycles over 50 cc.
For non-EU citizens:
- A motorcycle license issued outside the EU can be used, but must be clearly recognized as a motorcycle license by the authorities.
- Since this can be difficult depending on the country of origin and language, it is highly recommended to also carry an International Driving Permit (IDP).
The International Driving Permit (IDP):
- serves as a translation of the national driving license into several major languages,
- is usually applied for at the same authority that issued the national driving license,
- can usually be valid for up to three years,
- facilitates recognition during police checks, border crossings, or in the event of an accident.
What in case of motorcycle damage?
In the event of damage to the motorcycle, damage to third parties (including persons), or theft, a security deposit (excess) of EUR 2,000 is required. This deposit will be reserved on your credit card and released upon return of the motorcycle in accordance with the rental agreement.
Damage exceeding EUR 2,000 is covered by your motorcycle insurance. Optionally, the deposit can be fully insured with additional insurance from Hanse Merkur – this is available for a small additional charge.
In the event of damage, the following steps should be followed:
- Remain calm and assess the situation safely.
- Fill out a European Accident Report (available in German and English).
- Contact the police - necessary in the event of theft or if third parties are involved.
- Record the other party's details, including name, contact information, and insurance.
- Report the accident to us, your rental company, immediately - the phone number and all other necessary documents will be provided.
Important information:
- Never admit liability.
- Do not sign anything for third parties.
Our team is available to assist you at any time to ensure that your claim is handled quickly and correctly.

Lights are mandatory: Motorcycles must be ridden with daytime running lights on, both in summer and winter.

Do you have to pay tolls on motorways?

Tips for responsible driving:
Croatia offers many delicious wines and grappa, but it's important to drink responsibly and never ride under the influence.
Crossing borders. What countries can I ride the motorcycle in?
Main question: Is it permitted to cross national borders with a motorcycle rented from us?
YES, it is permitted.
Our motorcycles are fully insured in all EU countries. Additionally, insurance coverage applies in the following non-EU countries:
- Switzerland
- Bosnia and Herzegovina
- North Macedonia
- Serbia
- Albania
- Montenegro
- European part of Turkey
Important: There is no insurance coverage in Kosovo, so crossing the border is not possible there.
Border formalities:
When crossing borders, you must present two documents:
- International Insurance Card (IVK, formerly Green Card)
- Written border crossing permit
You will receive both documents when picking up the motorcycle, along with the rental agreement and vehicle registration.
Note:
- Please let us know in the message field when booking if you are planning a trip abroad, but at the latest when picking up the motorcycle.
- The border crossing permit is issued free of charge and is part of our service, as we know that many riders would like to explore multiple countries.
Other requirements:
- Passport or, depending on the country, national ID card
- Class A driver's license; possibly an International Driving Permit (IDP), as it is required at some borders
This way, you are well prepared to enjoy your cross-border motorcycle tour safely and stress-free.
Can I take my rented motorcycle on a ferry?
Yes, of course you can take your motorcycle on a ferry. Please let us know your plans when booking so we can give you helpful tips for your route and ferry planning.
There are numerous ferry connections in Croatia:
- National ferries connect the mainland with the major islands.
- International ferries travel to Italy and other countries, for example.
There are also very good connections from Albania (e.g., Durrës) to Italy (Bari), ideal for longer motorcycle tours.
Booking tips:
- All ferry companies offer online booking systems.
- We recommend booking tickets a few days to several weeks before departure - depending on the route, season, and ferry company.
- International ferry connections often operate overnight (e.g., departure 10:00 PM, arrival 7:00 AM).
- Cabins are available in inside or outside cabins, with 1, 2, or 4 beds, usually with private showers.
Direct Ferries, for example, offers a good overview and booking option, but other comparison portals can also be used.
Important information:
- Depending on the departure and destination ports, the trip may involve border crossings.
- In this case, a passport is mandatory.
- You will also need all other documents that would be required when crossing the border on the mainland.

What should I keep in mind when planning my trip?
Plan your trip in advance, especially during peak season. Popular cities like Split or Dubrovnik are often overcrowded, and accommodations book up quickly.
What alternatives are there to the big cities?
There are many lesser-known but beautiful places like Gorski Kotar or the offshore islands that are ideal for explorers.

Yes, there are numerous official campsites along the coast, which are often available without prior booking. They offer peace and comfort if you want to relax after a long day.
Should I still bring a tent?

What about parking fees and free parking in Croatia?
Parking for motorcycles is free in many official parking facilities. Unlike cars, free parking for motorcycles is relatively easy to find in Croatia.

Yes, free parking is widely available for motorcycles – even in popular locations that you visit for a day or longer. A good tip is to park where the locals park.
How safe is it to park a motorcycle in Croatia?
Croatia is considered a safe country when it comes to motorcycle theft. Many locals don't even lock their motorcycles and leave helmets unsecured on the vehicle. Free parking spaces are usually located in busy areas, which further reduces the risk.
Am I insured against theft?
Yes. MotoGS Rental covers motorcycles against theft. In the event of damage, your liability is limited to the deposit reserved on your credit card at the start of the rental - not a cent more.
