A day tour past Lake Peruća and Krka National Park to Lake Prokljan.

Your tour begins in our office in Kaštel Sućurac - Split.
You can also start this tour from any other location. These tour datas will take you to a relaxing spot on Lake Prokljan at the end of the day, directly to one of our recommended accommodations, the holiday home in the bay.
And for a good reason! The owner of these holiday homes, Daniel, is himself a passionate motorcyclist and also tour guide. So he has a lot of interesting information for you when it comes to touring in Croatia.
Many other tours can also be perfectly planned and started from there.

Tour Info

As already mentioned, your destination on this route is the holiday home in the bay, in 22000 Bilice, not far from Šibenik.
You only have about 170 km ahead of you, but you will still be on the road for 8 to 9 hours.
Why it is like that? On the way there you will visit some places that are worth visiting.

Your first destination will be the “Kliss Fortress”, not far from Split.
Your route takes you directly to the local public parking lot. Once there, you shouldn't miss the opportunity to visit the fortress. From up there, on the old and venerable fortress walls, you have a fantastic view of Split, the surrounding area and of course the beautiful Adriatic Sea.
So a perfect backdrop for perfect photos.
Also enough time to have one or two refreshing drinks there.

Then you continue further inland. You ride past Lake Peruća, over the old Balečki Bridge, to Izvor Cetine Glavaš.
Because there is really no shortage of attractive destinations in Croatia. The source of Cetine, also called the “Eye of Dalmatia”. This karst spring is a submerged speleological object, its depth is estimated at about 115 meters. The shape and colors that flow through the crystal clear water, especially from a bird's eye view, made it world famous and put it on the list of many curious people.

But that's not all, after sufficient exploration of this karst spring, your next destination takes you to Izvor Vuković.
The Kupa spring with its nearby springs, of which there are actually many, are located at around 380 m above sea level in the town of Cetina. The three most famous springs are Glavaš, Batica vrilo and Vuković, which can be visited here. The water from all sources ultimately come together and form Lake Peruča through various tributaries.

This river, called Cetina, is the longest Dalmatian river with a length of 105 km. It initially flows southeast to Šestanovac, where it then makes an actual U-turn and continues flowing almost in the opposite direction, namely northwest, to Omiš.
There it ultimately flows into the Mediterranean.
This strange twist is a result of geography. The Dinarides form valleys that run from northwest to southeast. The river follows a valley, then cuts through the mountain ridges and then flows parallel to the valley down in the other direction. The extraordinary thing about this river is actually that it flows above ground. Other rivers cross the mountain ridges underground through caves, but the Cetina River flows above ground from its source to the Mediterranean.

Some of the springs are beautiful funnel-shaped openings in the earth where the water flows from deep underground and has an unreal blue color. The most impressive of these Vaucluse springs is the spring in the northern part of Cetina, at the foot of the Cetina Manastir (Monastery of Cetina).

Your journey doesn't end here yet, because your next stop will be the Knin Fortress in the town of the same name, Knin.

Knin Castle on Mount Spas is the largest fortress in Croatia and delights visitors with its impressive history.
With its incredible length of 470 meters and a width of around 110 meters, Knin Castle is the largest fortress in Croatia and reportedly the second largest fortress in Europe. In the Middle Ages it was considered the center of power of the Croatian kingdom. Its heyday was around the 11th century. There is a lot to explore on the huge complex.
Today the fortress can only be described as a ruin, but as such it is very well maintained. The town of Knin itself is located on the D33, about 70 km northeast of Šibenik, very close to the Dinara Mountains and the source of the Krka River.

Your discovery tour through the Knin Fortress.
If you want to visit the facility, you should take some time. The site is spacious and there is a lot to see for a small entrance fee. For hunger and thirst are taken care, there is a good restaurant on site where you can eat with a wonderful view of the surrounding area. The construction of the complex began in the 9th century. It acquired its current appearance mainly in the 17th and 18th centuries. Unfortunately, it is no longer known exactly what the building originally looked like.
The location at 345 meters above sea level ensures incredible views of the surrounding landscape. Overall, the fortress roughly consists of three parts, a central, a southern and a northern part, which are connected by drawbridges or gates. Anyone who comes here should take a look at the hoisted Croatia flag - it is one of the most important symbols of the country's recent history. It was first hoisted during the last major battle of the Croatian War of Independence.

Your next and final destination of the day will be Lake Prokljan. On the way there you will cover a greater distance, and you will be able to pass many small villages in the mountains on winding mountain roads.
You will arrive in a small bay of the aforementioned lake. The route takes you directly to the proposed accommodation, The Holiday Home by the Bay.

How many days you want to check in there is of course entirely up to you. However, it is important and interesting to know - from there it is not far to the Krka Waterfalls in the Krka National Park. The town of Skradin is also just a stone's throw away.

You can plan your further tours from there, and above all you should visit the national park there. It makes sense to plan at least one day for this.

As already mentioned at the beginning, take advantage of the opportunity and let the owner of the holiday homes, Daniel, inspire you with further tour ideas through Croatia. There are no limits to your desire to tour.
